I have an early 20th century printing plate that is quite badly tarnished… is this recoverable or not really?

Not really. This looks like an engraving perhaps for cheques?

Not exactly cheques, from what text is easily deciphered. Gift certificates, I think.

    The store still exists! whitehouseportrush.com

yeah I think it was for invoices.

And yep it’s a store in one of my local seaside towns, they’re about to have a big anniversary and I was hoping to be able to make a print for them. Probably not an option I guess? 😬

Well, I can imagine sticking a high-res image of that in the background and just drawing vectors over top, or the like.

OR: You could try image levels adjustment plus autotrace. I have no assumption as to whether that would work out.

solid idea, probably beyond my letter-drawing skill but not a bad way to improve!
