I wonder if the reason people are using ChatGPT instead of Google has more to do with business models than technology.
Google already has the technology to show us great search results, but in recent years has chosen instead to show us the results that make them the most advertising money. ChatGPT isn’t optimising for profitability (yet), so even with imperfect technology (i.e. hallucinations) it’s still got a higher hit rate than the average Google search today.

It is kinda funny to think that .io domains might disappear because of a random territory transfer in the Indian Ocean, but given that there are TLDs for .lol, .foo, .boo, .ninja, etc… it seems unlikely that they won’t just reframe it as a “tech” TLD
